According to ComicBook.com, Holland became the most Tweeted about actor in 2019. But why?

In 2019, Holland appeared in two Marvel movies: Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Both films were huge hits at the box office, with Avengers: Endgame raking in over $2.7 billion and Spider-Man: Far From Home taking over $1.1 billion.

But shortly after Spider-Man: Far From Home hit $1 billion, news broke that Spider-Man’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in doubt. Sony and Disney (the parent company of Marvel Studios) could not come to an agreement over the future of the character and it appeared as if Spidey’s days in the MCU were numbered.

As soon as the news hit the internet, fans of the Marvel/Spider-Man movies took to social media to voice their feelings – and Tweeted about Spidey actor Tom Holland in the process.

The Sony/Disney disagreement over Spider-Man was eventually resolved, and stories then began circulating that Spidey was back in the MCU. And when that happened, Tom Holland was tagged in yet more Tweets.

But that isn’t the end of the story.

It later emerged, that one of the deciding factors in resolving the boardroom battle between Sony and Disney, was none other than…

…Tom Holland!

Concerned about Spidey’s future, Holland emailed Disney CEO Bob Iger to convince him to restart talks with the top brass at Sony. That email led to a phone call between Iger and Holland, and from there a series of calls/talks took place between Disney and Sony to resolve the situation.

And that phone call between Holland and Iger? It took place while Holland was a little drunk.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live (via Refinery 29), Holland said:

“I’m like three pints in, haven’t eaten much, and I get a phone call from an unknown number, and I think it’s Bob Iger. But I’m drunk.”

Holland continued:

“I was really emotional. I felt like it was all coming to an end. It would have been a shame to remove (Spider-Man) from the MCU because we’ve built such a strong character in that world.”
