In 2000, and with years of continuity under its belt, Marvel Comics made the decision to reimagine some of its most popular characters. The plan was to take heroes such as Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, place them in a new universe (separate to existing Marvel continuity), and restart their stories from the very beginning.
This new universe was known as the Ultimate Marvel Universe, and one of the comics it gave birth to was Ultimate Spider-Man. The comic followed the early adventures of Peter Parker and saw the wall-crawler battle the likes of Venom, Carnage, and the Sinister Six, as well as other villains.
Ultimate Spider-Man was a huge hit for Marvel and the comic ran for 133 issues, before it was cancelled as part of plans to bring the Ultimate Universe to a close. However, due to the popularity of the title, Ultimate Spider-Man was given a relaunch shortly after its cancellation, returning in the shape of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1.
Initially, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man restarted its numbering from the very beginning (issue #1, #2, #3 etc), but in time it reverted back to the numbering of its predecessor. It concluded with Ultimate Comics Spider-Man issue #160.
If you didn’t catch Peter Parker’s adventures in Ultimate Spider-Man the first time around, don’t worry – Marvel have republished all of the comics in trade paperback form. The books include every issue from Ultimate Spider-Man issue #1 onward, making it very easy to catch-up.
But how many books are there in the Ultimate Spider-Man collection and where do you begin?
Well, you begin with the very handy list below. This list includes all of the Ultimate Spider-Man trade paperbacks in chronological order.

I’ve got a hardcover version of ‘The Death of Spiderman Fallout’ which I bought thinking it was a follow up to Ultimatum and have never dared open in case of spoilers, but it doesn’t seem to be in your list. Is it just a later comic that fits on the end?

This book comes after this list. Fallout is a 6-issue story dealing with the aftermath of Spider-Man’s death, with a focus on Miles Morales.
