Before he passed away in 2020, actor Chadwick Boseman appeared in a string of movies. His career spanned small parts to leading roles, and he featured in a number of critically acclaimed films.

From King T’Challa in Black Panther (2018) through to Jackie Robinson in 42 (2013), the actor built up an enviable back catalogue of performances. He was a true icon of cinema and this was evident in the way he commanded the screen.

The list does not include any television appearances, but it should be noted that outside of cinema Chadwick Boseman’s initial roles did take place on the small screen. As you can see from the list above, Chadwick Boseman’s first movie role was in the film The Express. In this movie he played the role of Floyd Little.

From The Express the actor moved on to The Kill Hole, and then 42 where he received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Jackie Robinson. Draft Day followed, then Get on Up, where Boseman took on the part of legendary singer, James Brown.

Moving forward, Boseman appeared in Gods of Egypt, before he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as T’Challa/Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War – a role he continued in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. This role brought the actor to a whole new fan base and cemented his status as a global icon.

It is important to mention that Black Panther was a huge movie – not just for fans of the character or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also for black cinema. It brought generations of people together, who had not seen themselves represented on screen before, and it did so in a superb picture that is arguably one of the best Marvel movies of all-time.

Outside of the MCU, additional roles for Chadwick Boseman included Jacob King in Message from the King, Thurgood Marshall in Marshall, and Andre Davis in the excellent crime thriller, 21 Bridges. His final roles came via the movies Da 5 Bloods and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Throughout his career, Chadwick Boseman proved time and time again that he was an actor who could take on any challenge and overcome it, winning a wealth of fans in the process. His part as T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther will forever remain one of his best-loved roles, but there was something truly special in all of his movies.
